The Property

Luxury River Holiday Home in Dittisham near Dartmouth

Originally built in 1991 by Carpenter Oak, the River House has more recently been redesigned by the current owner to now include the beautiful indoor pool. The interiors have been simplified to create the calm semi - minimalist atmosphere that flows throughout the elegant simplicity of the grand oak structure.

Inside

• Style: barn house minimalist, impressive oak beams tower high above you offering a solid feel of space and calm. Glass panels invite the outside in and combine beautifully with the wood and Italian furniture, scattered contemporary art and fresh fabrics all blend beautifully to complete the tranquil haven of River House.
• Layout: Open plan living areas with open fire and high vaulted ceilings, split level accommodation with the zen suite leading from the pool area. Spiral staircases lead to the lofty bunkrooms.
• Bedrooms: There are 6 bedrooms in total. Choose from 2 of the double themed suites, the Aqua suite or the calming Zen suite. There's a childs bunk room in the attic as well as a cabin bed single room which are ideal for younger members of the group. There is also another double bedded room and a twin found within the Zen quarters.
• Bathrooms: Both the suites have bathrooms, there is an additional 2 shower rooms and also another bathroom.
• For relaxation: Enjoy the peace and tranquil view from one of the two outside courtyards, switch off with some private in-house beauty treatments or relax in the library with a good book. Yoga and Tai Chi classes can be arranged for you at the house.
• For recreation: Start your day with a morning swim in the private heated indoor pool, fold back the doors and enjoy al fresco dining in the Mediterranean styled courtyard. Stroll in the grounds and take in the view of the glinting River Dart below.
• Practicalities: A large american style fridge freezer, washer and dryer.

Outside

Set within five acres of stunning gardens and parkland, River House offers a 180 degree vista of the river and the rolling green Devon hills on either side. The generous terracotta pots scattered in the courtyard burst with tropical palms and Mediterranean plants whilst the chunky timber patio furniture offers a quiet place to sit and reflect.

Food and Wine

• DIY: Allow yourself to get creative in this beautiful and well equipped kitchen, the fire-engine red 4 oven aga welcomes the budding chef. Open the doors to the decking area and enjoy the fresh Devon air as you create.
• In house cuisine: If its a truly relaxing break you have in mind then leave your cookbooks at the door and enlist the help of a private chef. Delicious homecooked meals prepared to your specification be it a celebratory meal or simply a delicious BBQ to enjoy fresh local seafood from the river below.
• Eating out: The New Angel at Dartmouth is fantastic and well worth experiencing, enjoy local seafood and Devon fare at many of the smaller eateries littered throughout the area

Out and About

If its more action you desire then try your hand at sailing in nearby Dartmouth and Dittisham, known the world over for its beautiful sailing waterways navigable from the mouth right up to Totnes. The calm waters are ideal for open boat canoeing following the tide up river to explore the unchartered creeks and cream tea hideaways.

Start Bay is well worth a visit for those wanting to stretch the legs or simply loll on the beach. Walking up to Start Point with your binoculars is a great vantage point for some nautical views.

Bushcraft, the fascinating art and science of living from the land, earthwalks and nature walks can be arranged for you to unleash the Ray Mears in you all.
